The Box (2009) Empty

Good news everyone!! Richard Kelly is back!! He came to attention with Donnie Darko (2001), but then suffered from difficult second film syndrome with Southland Tales (2006). But, he's been given another chance for his third film, The Box. Based upon Richard Matheson's short story 'Button, Button', and set in 1976, it has couple Norma and Arthur Lewis (Cameron Diaz and James Marsden), who are visited by the mysterious Arlington Steward (Frank Langella) who brings a box with a button on it. If the Lewis' push the button, they will receive $1,000,000, and someone in the world they don't know will die. They have 24 hours to think it over, any longer than that, there will be consequences upon them.

Trailer!!

This looks good actually, very much like an episode of the Twilight Zone, (in fact, Matheson's short story was adapted for the 80's revival of The Twilight Zone). A sort of morality tale in a way, if you could get a load of money in an instant, would you do it at the expense of someone else's life?? It's out over here on December 4th. Oh, and Canadian band Arcade Fire have done the score for the film!! Wink

Donnie Darko is alright I suppose, but it's cult-like status is undeserved. Southland Tales was far more interesting but it made my head hurt. It did star The Rock though, and he has a very likeable screen presence. This one looks like it could be Kelly's best film so far.
