PostSubject: David Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method   Mon Jul 05, 2010 9:59 pm

David Cronenberg is Canada's greatest filmmaker. He's had a brilliant career. From his early body horror films with The Brood (1979), Scanners (1981), Videodrome (1983) and The Fly (1986). Then into the 1990's, he turned to literary adaptations with Naked Lunch (1991) and Crash (1996). By the 2000's, he faced critical acclaim for A History of Violence (2005), a modern day western and his London based drama Eastern Promises (2007). Now, for his next film, he's heading to Europe once more for a historical piece called A Dangerous Method. It could be an Oscar contender!!

Based on a book by John Kerr, and written for the screen by Oscar-winning writer Christopher Hampton, best known for Dangerous Liaisons (1988), this is set in turn of the century Vienna, and it focuses on the working relationship between Sigmund Freud (Viggo Mortensen) and Carl Jung (Michael Fassbender), and how this properous working relationship was put to the test when Sabina Spielrein (Keira Knightley) first women psychoanalysts, enters their lives and both men fall for her.

First pictures from the set of Mortensen, Fassbender and Cronenberg!!

Viggo has a nice beard!! Cool

It could be a good film. Cronenberg is a brilliant filmmaker, and he's evolving from the master of horror into something else. The story of Freud and Jung has prestigous qualities, and it's good to see Cronenberg work with Viggo Mortensen again, one of the best actors of our time, (the part was offered to Christoph Waltz originally), but the cast is rounded out with Fassbender (best known for Inglourious Basterds and Centurion) and Knightely. It's filming now in Vienna, Zurich and Bavaria, and it'll be out next year!!

Looks like some bad Photoshopping going on in that poster. Very Happy

But this should be great. Cronenberg's been on a roll recently and the cast is fantastic. And shallow as it may be ,it helps that I have a thing for two of them!
