Even though The Muppets have been going strong for years and years, their cinema outings seem to have to have stalled ever since Muppets From Space (1999) flopped. Since then, it's been an array of TV specials and straight to video films. However, they're getting a reboot thanks to Forgetting Sarah Marshall's Jason Segel, who has written this new reboot for Jim Henson's magnificent creations!! Yes, The Muppets are back with a new film, and all the stars have come to be in it!!
Walt Disney Pictures have just released the film's synopsis...
"On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino house band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate."
Sounds like the sort of plot you'd imagine Kermit and Co. getting into!! Best of all, as it was with the original films and even the TV series, they've got a brilliant supporting cast of guest cameos to be in the film. Joining The Muppets for their big comeback are Jack Black, Emily Blunt, Zach Galifianakis, Danny Trejo, John Krasinski, Mickey Rooney, Ricky Gervais, Billy Crystal, Lady Gaga, Alan Arkin, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Paul Rudd voicing Walter!! (See him below with Segal!!)
The film will be released on Christmas Day 2011 in America, and we should be getting it shortly after. It's great to see The Muppets return to the big screen!! They've got a great supporting cast of stars helping them out. Even though this is still in production, a sequel has already been rumoured, which is great news!!
