| Subject: Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street Tue Sep 11, 2012 12:11 pm | |
| Martin Scorsese is back, after making his first family film with Hugo (2011), he's returned back to his old stomping ground of New York for this crime drama, based on a true story. It see's Scorsese reunite with Leonardo DiCaprio, this is their 5th film together, and Scorsese has roped in some top talent for this one. The Wolf of Wall Street might sound like a boring financial crime film, but there's more to it than that. Set in the 1980's and 90's, it tells the true story of Jordan Belfort (DiCaprio), who is a hard partying, drug addicted stockbroker, but he's been doing things illegally, using his company Stratton Oakmont as a cover and pocketing over $200 million, which he spent on drink, drugs and women. His high flying lifestyle would lead to him and his friends sinking a 170-foot motor yacht, crashing a Gulfstream jet, and running up a $700,000 hotel tab. However, his wild ways would soon come at a price, as his activities have caught the attention of FBI Agent Greg Coleman (Kyle Chandler), who has built a case against him and his financial ties with organised crime. If it has organised crime in it, it has to be Scorsese, but he'll be showing that it goes all the way to the top. But, it sounds like a good story, kinda like Wall Street, only true. This was originally going to be made with Ridley Scott directing, but it passed to Scorsese, who was keen to work with Leo again. The script is by Terence Winter, who created Boardwalk Empire, which Scorsese produces, and Scorsese has got a brilliant cast together too. Jonah Hill will play Danny Porush, Belfort's number 2 man, and closest friend, Oscar winner Jean Dujardin off The Artist is playing crooked Swiss banker Jean-Jacques Handali and Matthew McConaughey as Mark Hanna, Belfort's boss, and it's rounded out by Jon Favreau, Rob Reiner and Gene Hackman!! Filming started in New York back in August, and filming has been going along. Some of the main cast has been spotted, including Leo in a car, Hill with goofy teeth and glasses and McConaughey looking quite gaunt... It'll be out late next year, and you can always rely on Scorsese to come up with a great story. Hugo was one of the best films of last year, even if hardly anyone went to see it, but he's back in New York, showing crime isn't just limited to organised crime, it's people who gamble with our money are just as bad. But, DiCaprio and Scorsese are always good together, and it's good to see Jonah Hill taking on more serious parts after Moneyball, and it was a matter of time before Dujardin went to Hollywood. But, who can say no to working with Scorsese?? I haven't read the Belfort's book, but it's got good write up's. | |
