PostSubject: Steven Spielberg's Lincoln   Thu Jun 30, 2011 7:08 pm

With Steven Spielberg back this year with 2 films, the motion-capture animation The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn, and his WW1 adventure War Horse. He's already prepping another film, but this is one he's wanted to make for 10 years. But, while he's made other films since then, he's never let this one out of his sight. But, it's a film which carries alot of prestige, the sort of film Oscar voters love. The film is Lincoln, and it's a perfect project for Spielberg, with a perfect cast as well.

Based upon Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin. This follows the life and times of the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln (Daniel Day-Lewis). The film will primarily look at his life as President, his relationship with his wife Mary Todd Lincoln (Sally Field), as well as his closest political colleagues and how he handled the American Civil War.

Spielberg is at his best with summer blockbusters, but he's found time for prestigious films. Ever since Schindler's List, his serious films have ranged from Amistad to Saving Private Ryan and to Munich. There hasn't been a proper film of Lincoln in years. One of the most famous ones was Young Mr. Lincoln (1939) starring Henry Fonda and directed by John Ford. But there have been TV movies about Lincoln from The Blue and the Gray. starring Gregory Peck to The Civil War starring Sam Waterston. However, this'll come out in the same year as Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, which will do what it says on the tin. But, Spielberg's take will do justice to the great man.

Daniel Day-Lewis doesn't make that many films, but he makes good choices. With this, pairing him with Spielberg to play Lincoln is an irresistable combination. But, Spielberg has got together an excellent supporting cast for this too. Including Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, James Spader, Tim Blake Nelson, Bruce McGill, David Strathairn and Hal Holbrook!! Very Happy

Anyone up for this?? There's not many people who could take on Lincoln's life as a film, but Spielberg is the perfect man for it. He rarely puts a foot wrong, and over the past decade has made some exciting films, working with all the best actors too. It's good that he's finally making this film making it after years in development. This could mean more Oscars for him too, and lets hope that he gets cracking with more films too, he's been away too long since Indy 4 and making Tintin.

There's going to be a lot of Oscar competition this year, with Django Unchained, The Master and Cloud Atlas all being touted.
