The Coen Brothers are back once again, following up the massive box-office success of True Grit (2010) with something completely different. With the Coens, it seems for every "serious" film they do, it's followed by 2 "funny" ones. (Fargo followed by Big Lebowski and O Brother, and The Man Who Wasn't There followed by Intolerable Cruelty and The Ladykillers). and this looks to be one of their funny ones. It looks to be a biopic set in Greenwich Village in the 1960's. It's called Inside Llewyn Davis and it looks to be a quintessential Coen experience.

It's a biopic that tells the story of singer-songwriter Llewyn Davis (Oscar Isaac, King John in Robin Hood), who becomes one of the most respected and influential folk artists in Greenwich Village. But, things get complicated when Llewyn falls for Jean Berkey (Carey Mulligan) who is married to fellow singer-songwriter Jim Berkey (Justin Timberlake)

It's a biopic, but Llewyn Davis doesn't exist, he's made up by the Coen's, but he's inspired by Dave Van Ronk, who was big on the folk scene in Greenwich Village, and getting the nickname as the Mayor of MacDougal Street. (Which was the name of Van Ronk's memoir which inspired this film, and he also knew the Coen's.) But, for this, the Coen's have got a good supporting cast for this film, with John Goodman making a welcome return to Coen's films, and they've cast Garrett Hedlund (off Tron: Legacy) and Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham as well!!

Filming started earlier this month, and Timberlake was spotted in New York with a very beatnik beard... Razz

It's good to have the Coen's back doing what they do best, a biopic that isn't really a biopic, but it is in a way. They've got a good cast for this one as well. With Roger Deakins away doing Skyfall, the Coen's have got Bruno Delbonnel, (who did their segment on Paris, je t'aime (2006)) to film it. It's due out later this year, and it'll be well worth seeing. Anyone up for it??
