Not seen the latest episode of The Story of Film yet (good show, but a bit wishy washy). I haven't seen The Hand either, but have heard of it. There are loads of great animations from that time in Eastern Europe.

We saw alot of Eastern European animations in college, some of them were indeed very trippy. We were told that during the 1980's, alot of funding for Czech animations came from Channel 4 who literally smuggled the money behind the Iron Curtain!!

Larry & Steve, done for Cartoon Network in 1997 by Seth MacFarlane. This was the template for his magnum opus that came shortly after... ::

FATAL DEVIATION !!!
Ireland's first martial arts film and generally considered one of the worst films EVER made. Cheer at the wooden acting, cringe at the 'breathtaking' fight scenes (the one in the local Spar with a couple of ne'er do wells is enough to rival any Bruce Lee flick) and gasp in awe at the amazing celebrity actor ......
....Mikey Graham from Boyzone.
Note: this is a serious film and NOT a piss take and is about an underground martial arts tournament in Trim Co.Meath run by monks!

I've now seen 4 of the films up for this year's best Animated Short Oscar. Dimanche, A Morning Stroll, Wild Life and The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. They're all good and should be watched, but Flying Books is my favourite. Quite lovely I think.
