Steven Spielberg's War Horse Empty
PostSubject: Steven Spielberg's War Horse   Steven Spielberg's War Horse EmptyWed Aug 18, 2010 10:44 am

Steven Spielberg needs no introduction. We all know what he's directed, and has made some of the top grossing films of the past 35 years. While his 3-D mo-cap take on Tintin is in post-production, he's turned his attention to a World War I film, with a difference. It's all seen from the perspective from a horse. Now, don't laugh, it's not as silly as it sounds, it's based on a critically acclaimed book by Michael Morpurgo published in 1982, and recently made into a successful play. Now, War Horse is coming to the big screen courtesy of one of cinema's best directors.

It's about a horse called Joey, who lives on a farm and has a strong bond with his young owner Albert (Jeremy Irvine). However, Joey is sold to the British Army and is sent off to fight in No Man's Land in France. Albert, who is too young to enlist in the army, goes on a life or death mission to get his beloved horse back.

It might sound sentimental, but it's perfect material for Spielberg. He's over here filming it in Dartmoor in Devon and Castle Combe at the moment. And he's got a very good cast for the film, including Peter Mullan, Emily Watson, David Thewlis, Benedict Cumberbatch and Stephen Graham!! Very Happy The film's screenplay has been done by Billy Elliot's writer Lee Hall and the great Richard Curtis!! Very Happy

Pictures from the set!!

Steven Spielberg's War Horse S6ly10

It's out on August 11th 2011 next year, and it's always good news to hear Spielberg is making a new film. The past decade has been a very exciting period for him, moving from sci-fi films like A.I. to Minority Report to comedy-dramas like Catch Me If You Can and The Terminal. But, with times for big blockbusters like War of the Worlds and Indy 4. We'll have 2 Spielberg films out next year, which is always good news!! Tintin and this. Spielberg's WW2 films are excellent, but it'll be even more exciting to see how he takes on The Great War, even if it is from the point of view of a horse. Don't let it put you off.

The book's author Michael Morpurgo talks about how and why Spielberg did it...

He sounds chuffed by it too.
