John Carter

This is getting a big buzz now. Based upon Edgar Rice Burroughs' character from the Barsoom series, beginning with A Princess of Mars (1917) and ending with Llana of Gathol (1948), this has been in development for years, beginning at Paramount with Robert Rodriguez, who left to do Sin City, then Jon Favreau was attached. then he left to do Iron Man. Then, it went to Disney, where it's become the live-action debut of Pixar director Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo (2003) and WALL•E (2008)), and it's all clicked into place. It's taken a while to film, but John Carter is coming next summer, and it looks ace.

John Carter (Taylor Kitsch) is an American Civil War hero who finds himself transported to Mars, known to it's inhabitants as Barsoom, which was a world like earth, but war has seen to the death of most of the population. Carter finds himself in an adventure to save Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins) and has to stop a potential genocide by the lack of air.

It looks quite good, there was a trailer released earlier this year, and it has potential for a good adventure, it's been a long time in the making, filming started back in January 2010, and it's spent a while in post-production, yet it has a good cast including Willem Dafoe, Samantha Morton, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Bryan Cranston, Ciarán Hinds, Thomas Haden Church and Mark Strong!!

It'll be out on March 9th 2012, and it'll be the first big blockbuster of 2012. It looks well made as well, and director Stanton shows confidence with his first outing in live action. If successful, this could warrant a sequel. There was alot more to author Edgar Rice Burroughs than Tarzan, and this'll turn people onto his John Carter and Barsoom books.

Brad Bird doing MI4 and Stanton with this. Now we need John Lasseter and Pete Docter to try live action!
