A missed opportunity. The story is as relevant today as it was when it happened, but Bigelow opts to overemphasise the violence at the expense of the real human drama. We're offered cardboard cutouts rather than fully rounded characters. Can't help but wonder how much more powerful it would have been in the hands of say a Spike Lee or Steve McQueen. 2/5


An American Tragedy, and the following night A Place In The Sun. Interesting to compare the two.
