As found searching the interweb, whilst not strictly a new movie or film, it deserved a mention here nonetheless.
The latest film to be turned into an off broadway musical is none other than Dawn of the Dead! Romero's 1978 zombie masterpeice is to be turned into a musical. Pitched between a comedy a musical and a horror, Dawn of the Dead The Musical is currently auditioning for its roles, whilst the main zombies do nothing more than shuffle and moan in the film, in the musical they're set to perform a big band dance routine whilst under heavy prosthetics whilst finishing diving into a pool in sequence. George A Romero was unavailable for comment, but it's regarded that he is little involved with the production which is set to play in November this year premiering in Pittsburgh.
Songs rumoured to be included are: ' When theres no more room in hell, the dead shall boogie ' set to mimic Bacarra's 1977 hit ' yes sir i can boogie' and 'Come on, you dumb bastards, come and get 'em!' which plays to the tune of the Bee-Gee's More Than A Woman'.
It appears that the writers of the musical are looking to disco classics and looking to update them for the zombie generation, whether or not it succeeds is another story entirely. I for one LOVE the film and, to put it bluntly, horrified to see it bastardised for the stage. What are your thoughts?
